Information for patients

Insurance

If you are using private medical insurance, check authorisation and the terms of your policy before your appointment.

Using private medical insurance

Please contact your insurer in advance to check whether your consultation, tests or treatment are covered. They may provide an authorisation number and explain any excess or contribution you will need to pay.

Ask the clinic what information your insurer needs →

Insurers

Dr Wijesurendra currently works with AXA PPP, Aviva, Bupa, WPA, Vitality, Cigna, Healix, PHC, The Exeter, CS Healthcare, Simplyhealth and Benenden. If you are covered by another insurer, please contact the clinic team: it is often possible to add a provider.

Before you book

Ask your insurer whether your policy covers the consultation, whether a GP or cardiologist referral is required, whether you need pre-authorisation, and what excess or shortfall may apply. It is helpful to ask whether the authorisation covers the consultation alone or also any monitoring, tests and treatment that may be recommended.

Can I self-refer with insurance?

Some policies allow self-referral, while others require a GP or specialist referral before authorisation. Your insurer can confirm the route required by your particular policy. If a referral is needed, the clinic can explain the clinical information that will be helpful.

Support with prior authorisation

Where appropriate, the clinic can provide the clinical and procedure information an insurer needs to consider prior authorisation for heart-rhythm monitoring, cardioversion, catheter ablation or other recommended care. The insurer remains responsible for confirming eligibility, cover and authorisation.

Key points

  • Coverage and authorisation requirements vary by policy.
  • You remain responsible for any excess or charges not covered by your insurer.
  • The clinic can help clarify the information needed for an authorisation request.

Patient note

“It is worth checking your cover before an appointment. It avoids surprises and lets us focus on the clinical decision.”

Questions for your insurer

Do I need a GP referral? Is an authorisation code required? What is my excess? Which fees are covered?

FAQ

Can the clinic check my policy for me?

The clinic team can advise on the information they need, but insurers determine eligibility and cover.

Do I need a GP or cardiologist referral?

This depends on your insurer and policy. Some insurers allow self-referral, while others require a GP or specialist referral before they will authorise care.

What should I ask my insurer before booking?

Ask whether your consultation is covered, whether a referral or authorisation number is needed, the excess that applies, and whether any likely tests or treatment need separate approval.

What if my insurer is not listed?

Please contact the clinic team. It may be possible to add another insurer, but cover and authorisation must always be confirmed with your provider.
