Introduction
I welcome referrals from GPs, cardiologists and other specialists for patients with suspected or established arrhythmias, unexplained symptoms, difficult ECGs, or where a specialist opinion on rhythm treatment or catheter ablation would be helpful.
I provide a focused electrophysiology opinion when a diagnosis or management strategy is uncertain, while working collaboratively with the referring clinician. I am happy to give an additional subspecialist view where the patient remains under the wider care of their own cardiologist.

When to refer for an electrophysiology opinion
- New or unexplained arrhythmia — diagnosis, investigation and management.
- AF despite medical treatment — rhythm-control options and whether ablation assessment would be useful; see the patient-facing AF treatment options guide if helpful.
- Recurrent SVT or atrial flutter — electrophysiology and ablation opinion; the SVT medication-or-ablation guide can help patients understand the options.
- Palpitations, syncope or an abnormal ECG — when the diagnosis remains uncertain.
- Complex rhythm management — a second opinion on medication, devices or intervention.
- Patients already under a cardiologist — an additional electrophysiology opinion where an arrhythmia-specific treatment question remains.
Remote ECG & arrhythmia advice
Remote ECG interpretation and focused arrhythmia advice are available for clinicians who would value a specialist view before or alongside a formal referral. A concise question with the relevant ECG or rhythm strip can be helpful, for example:
- Is this atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter?
- Does this ECG suggest pre-excitation?
- Could this presentation be SVT?
- Does this patient need an electrophysiology assessment?
- Is ectopy likely to need further investigation?
Making a referral
Please include a concise clinical question, symptoms, relevant ECGs or rhythm recordings, medication list and key investigation results where available. The secure referral service confirms receipt; further correspondence follows once the patient has been assessed.
